Tonight’s podcast was conceived on about 36 hours notice. Welcome to the long lost age of models and props as we dissect this cheesy 80′s movie from 1997. It’s not an action movie, or a war movie, or even a sci-fi movie. This is a character movie with some of those elements thrown in for flavor. Brace yourself as we discuss politics, citizenship, service, fascism, propaganda, AT&T, war, honor, sacrifice, leadership, and many other deep things. There’s lots of laughs in this one, folks.
Dethryl and Kathryn are getting married soon. Two weeks and counting. He’s ready to kill the reception venue. We’re not sure how one can kill a venue, but we’ll look into it. Kat is making travel arrangements to attend the wedding. Toward the end, the recording got slightly out of sync, and Deth appears like he’s a couple of seconds in the future. He’s not twitchy enough that he’s breaking the sound barrier, it’s just a software issue. He gets real twitchy next episode, but we switched recording programs, so hopefully there won’t be any issues.
Remember that horrible football call last season? We’re still discussing it. Kat educates us on literature. Kathryn has some very epic one-liners. There are cancer-free nuclear weapons, public service announcements, and more in this fun and exciting episode.

Episode 62 of Poufwa Exchange launches Season 4!

We’re back! We’re under new management! For the first season, Poufwa Exchange was a collection of one-offs. It was a lot of fun, but there was no schedule, per se. Ryan, Deth, and PS split off from PotterFicWeekly at the end of season 3 to revive Poufwa Exchange for a second season that dove into the depths of Babylon 5 and A Game Of Thrones. Toward the end we saw the return of Jen Classic as she joined Ryan to discuss Doctor Who and Torchwood. Season 3 was more decentralized (read: chaotic!) and small groups covered lots of diverse things. We finally covered Firefly, which we had promised to do for years. Now Ryan and Jen have gotten in a car together, gone to abduct Sue from PFW and Bob from Spellcast, and can be heard over on Point of View Weekly, leaving Dethryl to keep the lights on here. He promptly got the best technical help possible, and we welcome Kat to the podcast as a full-time host. Everyone clear on that?

Dethryl and Kathryn are engaged. The wedding is three weeks away — at least at the time of this recording. We’re not very timely with these things, as you may be aware… They did actually go through with it, and Kat was even a guest.

In this episode we’re covering a very old sci-fi movie and the pilot for the spin-off of the TV series that went on to become the longest continuous running in the genre. Deth and Kat have a mutual passion and are exchanging with Kathryn. Bob and Evan from the forum join us, and Scott drops in from PFW.

Episode 61 of Poufwa Exchange is unexpectedly released!

Instead of opening with “Look what I found on the old hard drive!” we will once again label this a “vintage” recording.

On the plus side, Kezza is back!

This episode was recorded shortly before Season 2 of Downton Abbey premiered in the United States and provides discussion of the first season. Danielle and I had just powered through Season 1 in preparation for the premiere and this recording and didn’t have all or many (or any) of the characters’ names down.

Enjoy our predictions and hopes for future seasons of Downton Abbey, and see which ones came true! Episode 60 of the Poufwa Exchange has been released!

You never know what you’ll find in the Poufwa editing bay. Some of our recordings are propped on the floor lathered in beer and mold. We usually pull Kezza out of retirement to save them. But every once in a great while, we have a discussion that clicks so perfectly we barely have to touch it.

No setup. This is one of those episodes.

We really pack it in this week. The wife joins Jen Classic and me, and we welcome Richard back to the Poufwa Exchange to discuss the hell out of Gilmore Girls, from favorite moments to characters to how much we cannot stand Christopher Hayden. It’s a great discussion for anyone who loves this wonderful series. If you’ve never tried it, something is wrong with you. Run, don’t walk.

This recording is quasi-vintage and was recorded during the New Hampshire primary. I’m pretty sure it was the 2012 one. We get rather heated on the electoral college for the first 12 minutes, before introducing a new podcast segment – Cooking with Dick! Danielle and Richard geek out on kitchen appliances for 20 minutes before we dive into Gilmore Girls.

Episode 59 of the Poufwa Exchange has been released!

Tonight, broadcasting live from Neptune with my output volume on “1″, I am joined in true Poufwa fashion with the microphones of Julia and LadyChi to say goodbye to The West Wing’s Kathryn Joosten. It has been brought to our attention that she also stole the show on Desperate Housewives. We’ve never seen the show and you probably won’t hear any Poufwa episodes on it this century, but we hope their audience was able to enjoy her a tenth as much as we enjoyed the immortal Mrs. Landingham.

Episode 56 of the Poufwa Exchange has been released!

Some people let wine age for years before they drink it. That’s the best description of my editing style I can think of at the moment! A batch of Poufwa podcasts were left to “age” over the past few months and the upside of that is not even the hosts remember what they said or thought, and that is the case with this retro-recording of The Hunger Games following our first reading of the series!

It’s back in the saddle again, and it’s nothing like riding a bike. I absolutely forget how to record a podcast. Melinda checks in from Apollo 11, Rinna’s rolling on the floor, Sue is administering first aid, and we’re just assuming PS is drunk. This podcast covers our initial thoughts on the universe of Panem and contains spoilers for all of the books, so be warned. Casting had already begun at the time of this recording, so it’s great to look back at our hopes for the first movie now that we’ve all had a chance to see it.

We hope to have an in-depth review of the film out over the next few days. A laid back discussion of our current obsessions is ready for release, and episodes on Gilmore Girls and Downton Abbey should be out soon. And if I have to put Jen2 in a headlock, expect something on The Walking Dead.

Tonight, Poufwa offers a dual-length episode nine months in the making!

Back in January, when I was watching Torchwood’s second season for the first time and eager to talk about it, we recorded a discussion that morphed from Torchwood to Firefly to Doctor Who’s recently completed fifth season and our predictions for its sixth. It’s a great lost episode where we can revisit past impressions, seeing who guessed what and discover forgotten theories that may still come true! The point of the Poufwa Exchange is to live the experience again vicariously through someone else, but this is a fun chance to revisit it ourselves!

This first section contains spoilers for all episodes through Torchwood Season 2′s Adam and Doctor Who’s fifth season finale, The Big Bang, or at least that’s the case after heavy editing. Jen otherwise couldn’t help herself.

Around the 2 hour 30 minute mark, we offer our second podcast of the evening, a recently recorded Poufwa double-date! Jen and I bring James and Danielle along for a carefully planned, itinerary-powered, 25-part discussion of Doctor Who Season 6.0 and our predictions for Season 6.5, debuting tomorrow night! Poufwa Exchange will return to Babylon 5 in a few weeks with discussion of Season 4 – all in one sitting! We will undoubtedly fail, but all of Season 4 will be up for grabs the next time we return.

Tonight, or should I say this morning – Jen Classic and I return to discuss Torchwood: Miracle Day’s third episode, Dead of Night! This episode contains spoilers for previous seasons of Torchwood and up through the Season 6.0 finale of Doctor Who: A Good Man Goes To War.

Torchwood goes on the run and finds a new enemy, but as they launch a raid on PhiCorp headquarters, Jack must confront the mysterious Oswald Danes.

Next week, Jen Classic is going on vacation to Yellowstone. I am not kidding! We’ll catch up on the next two episodes in two weeks!

Tonight, Poufwa continues covering Season 3 of Babylon 5, picking up from the post-revolutionary Ceremonies of Light and Dark through the arc-heavy War Without End, Part II!

In this episode, PS shoots David Corwin in the nuts, disappointing his mother. Thing are very creepy, Dethryl becomes very upset over dresses and can’t substract, I go off on the in-laws and am amused by carrots, angry Kathryn’s mute button is perfectly useless, and post-Robert Aaron and Herbie have a very nice time.

Convicted child killer Oswald Danes is executed for his crimes and when he miraculously survives his fate a series of events is set in place that forces CIA Agent Rex Matheson to investigate a global event, His investigation leads him from America to Wales and an old defunct British Institute – TORCHWOOD.

We’ll make every effort to release future podcasts on Torchwood as close to the original air date as possible.

With the release of this episode, the Babylon 5 universe has lost another voice. Jeff Conaway has joined Andreas Katsulas, Richard Biggs, and Tim Choate beyond the Rim, and it is only fitting that tonight’s episodes so heavily showcase the character of Zack Allen.

Tonight, Poufwa jumps into Season 3, discussing Matters of Honor through Severed Dreams! The series arc kicks into prominent gear with these episodes, concluding in an unofficial three-parter that changes the series forever.

It’s quite the podcast! We finally manage to get Aaron’s microphone sensitivity to a reasonable level. Really. Kind of. A widdle. Speaking of widdle, Delenn stops by. Interstellar war threatens the promise of Babylon 5 and anything not bolted down begins its trek towards the fan. Holy crap! An on-time release!

In tonight’s episode, beginning with Page 117 of A Song of Ice and Fire (Page 202 in the paperback), we question whether this is a fic. Can we call it a fic? More to the point, can we stop calling it a fic? I doubt it, but we report and you decide. PS is on quaaludes, can’t tell time or do maths, and issues a PSA. I’m getting excited already! Richard refuses to watch A Very Potter Musical despite it having an awesome rendition of its favorite characters. Sounds on-topic! Lady or Nymeria? Grey Wind or Ghost? Shaggydog or Summer? Jen2 is on vicodin because she was masquerading as Jen Classic and contributes greatly to the conversation, which is great all on its own, because Jen2 and PS are both under the influence. Come to think of it, PS was under the influence last week, so we’re not quite sure if it’s two distinct incidents or one really long hangover.

Changing the subject, where would PS and Jen2 want to be sold into marriage? Is PS squicked out by old-people!sex? Thank you for asking. Yes. Yes, she is. She didn’t think they had it, perhaps. Just like she didn’t think there were farms. That crazy PS. Meanwhile, Dethryl discusses the physics of planetary movement and rotation. No, that’s not a euphemism. We’ve been meaning to talk about it for thirty episodes. Luckily, he remembered. Please, Don’t Wake the Dragon (TM). Theon Greyjoy is a date rapist, just like Ron Weasley, and Jen2 and PS drool over the men of Westeros and Khal Drogo.

We have only a couple of things to mention about the HBO series. It’ll take no time at all, but who the hell is Ros? It’s Starbuck-is-a-girl all over again!

Tonight, Poufwa launches the first of three episodes covering the second season of Babylon 5, starting with Points of Departure and the arrival of Captain John Sheridan, and concluding with the arc-heavy Coming of Shadows, winner of the 1996 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. I’ll refrain from mentioning it beat Apollo 13 and Deep Space Nine’s The Visitor, which on fourth viewing continues to turn my wife into a puddle of tears that can cook.

Tonight, we proudly debut our George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, starting with Book I – A Game of Thrones!

We’ve tried summaries and are miserable. The cut and paste, for those who bumped their heads.

Sword and Sorcery, hold the Sorcery. Lord of the Rings, but not really. Very shiny.

This episode covers roughly the first 100 pages, and Poufwanians are advised and encouraged to read ahead and beyond. Because we’d have to renumber every single episode in post-production if we called this Episode 27, Special Edition 1 of the Poufwa Exchange has been released!

Once upon a time there was a boy named Ryan.  He balances his checkbook for fun and hates zombies.  Those are his things.  He’s mildly obsessed with Doctor Who.  And BattleStar Galactica.  But not zombies.  Hates those.

Once upon a time there was a girl named Jen.  Since she showed up late and that username was taken by a plucky Texan, she picked Jen2 instead. Hard to believe that was still available.  Jen2 collects hard drives and is one of those Black Friday shoppers.  You know the type.  Tents and the like.  But no zombies.  Hates those more than Ryan does.

One day, Jen2′s mother…something…made her watch The Walking Dead on AMC Sunday evenings at 10/9 central.  For sport, or perhaps on a bet. We think she missed the zombies.

This next bit’s a little weird.  Jen2 loved it.   She didn’t know why, so she blackmailed Ryan. As one does. She had pictures…and things. She told him to watch The Walking Dead on AMC Sunday evenings at 10/9 central, and see what happened  So he did it, because…you know…of the pictures, and worse…the things.

Lightning struck twice. Ryan could see the three tachyon pulses and needed a static warp shell to save the universe. Zombies…done well!

Episode 26 of the Poufwa Exchange has been released!

Forgive the lateness of this episode.  We couldn’t find what I lovingly refer to as “the damn release button.”

For the next several weeks, the Poufwa Exchange will alternate between discussion and analysis of J. MIchael Straczynski’s, Babylon 5, and George RR Martin’s A Game of Thrones. Babylon 5 is up tonight, with a double-length episode covering the first thirteen episodes, from Midnight on the Firing Line through to the key episode of Signs and Portents, for which the season is named.

In tonight’s episode:

* I have a fever of 102.6, have an hour-long phone discussion with Apple technical support which to this day I don’t remember, had a heated conversation with Mrs. Huggles who as it turns out was not in the room but twenty-three miles away, and despite our little production’s colorful and vicodin-fueld history, was too incapacitated to participate for at least ninety minutes.

* We welcome Kathryn as a new host of the Poufwa Exchange!  Her first assignment is to spend the bulk of this episode duct-taped in the corner.

* PS may once have been a murder suspect, but promises she is not a sexual predator.  Relief fills the audience.

* Aaron breaks in our new Explicit barrier!

* Jen Classic prank calls my mother.

* PS does not have the technology.

* Dethryl discovers the joys of monologuing.

Episode 25 of the Poufwa Exchange has been released!

Season Two of the Poufwa Exchange kicks off with an INCREDIBLY on-topic discussion of the pilot movie for one of the greatest television shows ever made, Babylon 5′s The Gathering.  A five-year novel set in the year 2257, Babylon 5 is the last of the Babylon stations. Its purpose is to prevent another interstellar war, the last being the Earth-Minbari War of 2248. Humans and aliens live together, and ambassadors from all of the major races meet to work out disputes peacefully. Contact has finally been made with the mysterious Vorlon Empire, but the newly arrived representative is the target of a sophisticated assassination attempt.

Hilarity ensues.

The sheer depth of planning and awesomeness that went in to this series is discussed in exhaustive detail as I rediscover my love of monologuing.

Dethryl and I do our best to avoid spoiling and fail miserably, but thanks to Deth’s editing, you’ll never know!  Seems redundant to even mention it, really…

* Scott forgets what series we’re talking about.  The man’s in charge of PotterFicWeekly for one week and he’s already mastered the job.

* J. Michael Strazynski is a genius.

* Dethryl and I are amazed at all the foreshadowing. The lesson: Pay attention to everything!

* Nobody likes Lieutenant Commander Takashima.

* B5 is not Star Trek. Especially not DS9.

* Dethryl fills PS with bliss as he debuts his Centauri accent.

Babylon 5 is a centre of diplomacy and trade, in neutral space located between many rival space empires. The project’s success, already shaky, is put further in doubt when incoming Commander Jeffrey Sinclair is the key suspect in the attempted assassination of Kosh, a mysterious alien ambassador.

(Allison Janney) struggles to keep the embarrassing story out of the press while the White House staff celebrates the confirmation of their nominee, Judge Mendoza (Edward James Olmos, not seen), for the Supreme Court. An uncomfortable Josh (Bradley Whitford) is assigned to talk with the administration’s controversial nominee (Carl Lumbly) for assistant attorney general for civil rights who advocates that African-Americans receive financial reparations for slavery. Elsewhere, Sam (Rob Lowe) crosses swords with Mallory (Allison Smith) over the issue of private school vouchers while Mandy (Moira Kelly) lobbies to secure two new pandas for the National Zoo.

Episode 5 of the Poufwa Exchange has been released!

In this episode, Ryan, Julia, Mike, and PS kick off a Poufwa rewatch of Aaron Sorkin’s, The West Wing offering commentary for the popular first season episode, In Excelsis Deo.

Toby tries to arrange a proper funeral for a homeless veteran; Josh and Sam try to set up a preemptive strike against Lillienfield, who is attacking Leo because of his prior drug and alcohol problem; CJ tries to get the staff to revisit the hate crimes issue; Bartlet sneaks out to do some last minute shopping.

In this episode, Julia and Ryan totally geek out on just about everything, PS ships Leo, Mike calls Toby a bastard, and Ryan lunges at him right there on the podcast!  We also compare and contrast the characters of Josh and Toby, tell Mandy exactly what we think of her, and bow at the feet of LadyChi Mrs. Landingham.

Episode 4 of the Poufwa Exchange has been released!

Tonight, three Poufwanians give their insight on basically everything in the Twilight series. Over the past couple of years, the Twilight fandom has exploded. Some people compare it to Harry Potter, as we try to do tonight, but there is no comparison — they’re on different levels. As the August 2nd release encroached on us, fans itched for new material from author Stephenie Meyer.

Join Raesive, Rosworms, and Dave as they analyze new material and speculate on what will happen in Breaking Dawn, the last book of Isabella Swan’s story. We analyze previous book cover designs, the Twilight cover font (Zephyr), the quotes from Meyer’s website. At the end, the hosts predict what will happen in the upcoming book.  (This was recorded on the Monday before the book release.)

Episode 3 has been released!

Tonight, we offer a commentary for the ninth episode of the first season of Heroes, Homecoming.

Events in this episode take place on the day of Claire’s Homecoming game. Claire’s father is growing desperate to stop the villain who is coming after Claire. Nathan gets the painting from Linderman, and is horrified by what it depicts. Mohinder’s dreams hold secrets about his father. Ando waits for Hiro who still has not returned from the past. Peter must try to save the cheerleader and also himself.

This is a continuation of the same recording session from our first episode, with the addition of James, or as I have taken to calling him, Mr. Jen. Prepare to be a fly on the wall of that marriage!

At the time of this release, we have recorded up to episode six with several more recording sessions scheduled for the very near future!

Episode 2 of Poufwa Exchange has been released!

Tonight, we offer the first of many, many podcasts on Farscape, the scifi classic created and produced by Rockne S. O’Bannon, Brian Henson, and the Jim Henson Creature Shop.  No series has ever been so deeply contemporary and accessible while at the same time being so alien and disorienting.  The five-year storyline is addictive, complete and will leave you surrounded by leather while at the same time feeling deeply for those you have long since forgotten were puppets.

In tonight’s podcast, Jen, PS and I will provide running commentary of the pilot episode, Premiere.

For the past eighteen months, the PotterFicWeekly community has been a notable exception within the Harry Potter fandom. We get along well and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. Please take a moment to process this information and compose yourselves.

After releasing hundreds and hundreds of hours of fan fiction analysis about a single fandom and the same core set of characters reliving similar circumstances, I understand that we will at one point say all there is to say. Fortunately, our community has a few other topics to touch on before turning out the lights. The Poufwa Exchange represents an opportunity to explore dozens of new genres. Hardcore members and newcomers alike can exchange their favorite TV shows, movies, books, and fan fiction. We’ll watch together and record commentaries, or will debate and discuss with the professionalism you’ve come to expect. This is our podcast, but it’s also yours. Listen along, but be sure to participate. As much as we want to relive our favorites, we want to try new things.
